About Me

After graduating from Texas A&M in 1992, I worked for ten years as a junior high reading teacher in Texas public schools. During that time I became an academic coach and judge for UIL speaking events. I also served as both coach and judge for essay and speaking contests in the Titus County Fair Academic Rodeo.

In 2004, I began teaching elementary ESL and gained experience working with students from various linguistic backgrounds. I taught students by meeting them at their level of English proficiency and by helping them to progress in their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

When my husband and I were blessed with a son in 2006, we knew we wanted to provide him with an education that we believed would line up well with our Christian values and goals as parents, so I took the best of my classroom knowledge and combined it with a blend of classical and Charlotte Mason pedagogy to begin the journey of homeschooling. As my son entered his teen years, I began to outsource most subjects, but I continued to serve as his English teacher and college preparatory advisor. To help him meet the expectations required of him for academic writing in dual credit courses and for college application essays, I invested time and research into the skills needed for both. I also began tutoring other students who wanted help with their essays.

Now that my son is enrolled as a full-time college student, our homeschooling days have come and gone, leaving me with sweet memories and gratitude for the journey we shared. While I’m no longer homeschooling, I continue to be available for other students. In addition to the services listed above, I’m also now offering in-person tutoring for local students in grades 3-6. In-person sessions are held at a library near me. Lessons are designed to fit the needs of each learner.

I look forward to meeting new students and parents from within my current networks and hope that by sharing my skills and experience, I can be a blessing to others.
