Hi, I’m Amy Chenault.

I enjoy vanilla lattes, daily walks, and spending time in nature—simplicities and luxuries of life that I truly treasure.

With a B.S. in interdisciplinary studies from Texas A&M University and a specialization in reading instruction, I hold over twenty years of experience in helping students develop strong literacy skills.

I began my career in the public school classroom, where I taught a combined 13 years of 6th-8th grade reading and K-5 ESL. During those years, I also served as a UIL academic coordinator, coach, and judge.

When my husband and I were blessed with a child through international adoption, I began researching the world of homeschooling and encountered educational options that were new to me. I attended the Great Homeschool Convention in Texas and found myself gravitating toward vendors like Classical Academic Press, Memoria Press, and Tapestry of Grace. I listened to presenters who spoke about classical instruction and learned about an ancient method for teaching writing called the progymnasmata, a method that proved to be especially beneficial for my dyslexic son. I read from authors who promoted the concept of scholé, a philosophy of restful learning, as opposed to a routine of rushed busywork. It was this scholé approach applied to deep, meaningful studies that my son thrived under and that I aim to cultivate in my tutoring sessions.

Once my son entered his final years of high school, I outsourced most of his coursework and began tutoring other students. I edited essays for college-bound students and also met with students online and in person for English language arts and reading (ELAR) instruction.

Most recently, I contracted with an online literacy company as a teacher for K-8 learners. Using the Science of Reading principles, I provided intensive phonics instruction and lessons designed to strengthen students’ reading comprehension and fluency skills.

Today I work from home, tending to chores and projects. I also help lead a 5th- and 6th-grade Sunday school class and volunteer in several other ministries. My priority is to continue to serve in these areas while also utilizing my experience and passion in the form of private, specialized ELAR instruction through sources of text that represent Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
